What is Toastmasters? Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational corporation with a mission to improve communication and leadership skills.
What will I learn at Toastmasters? In Toastmasters you will learn how to successfully formulate, express and sell your ideas and yourself and get rid of that nervousness you feel when called upon to speak. You will improve your ability to listen to and evaluate other people's ideas and you will learn leadership skills along the way.
How often does Speakers Corner Toastmasters meet? We meet every Wednesday at 12 Noon at the MetLife Building on 501 US Highway 22 West in Bridgewater, NJ. Our meetings last one hour.
Can I just come and watch for a while without joining? Yes. Meetings are open to the general public. You will need to sign in at the security desk before you can enter the building. Please call in advance so we can prepare a welcome packet of material for you.
How many times can I come before I have to join? As often as you want to.
Who do I talk to about joining? The Vice President of Membership or, if not available, the Vice President of Education.
When can I join? Anytime.
How much does it cost to be a member? Dues are $36 per 6-month period ($27 to Toastmasters International and $9 to Speakers Corner). There is also a one-time new member club fee of $12.00, and a one-time new member fee of $20.00 to Toastmasters International. This provides your Educational materials and magazine.
What materials are provided to me? You will receive your basic Communication and Leadership manual from Toastmasters International in approximately three weeks. In addition, as a member you will receive a monthly Toastmasters magazine from Toastmasters International.
Who decides which member performs what function during a meeting? The Club President solicits volunteers for the next week's meeting at the end of the current meeting.
After I join am I on my own? No - you can ask another member, or request that a member be assigned to you, to function as a mentor to help you with your progress in Toastmasters.
